Incidents
View, manage, and resolve incidents triggered by your monitoring checks.
Overview
An incident is created automatically when a check fails and the confirm period has elapsed. You can also create incidents manually as custom incidents for issues that are not tied to a check.
Incident List
Navigate to Incidents in the sidebar to see all active and past incidents for your team. The table shows:
- Title — The name of the affected check or a custom title.
- Status — Current state of the incident (e.g. triggered, acknowledged, resolved).
- Severity — The priority level assigned to the incident.
- Created at — When the incident was first detected.
Incident Details
Click on an incident to open its detail page. From here you can:
- View the full timeline of events including status changes, comments, and automated updates.
- Acknowledge the incident to indicate someone is actively working on it.
- Resolve the incident once the issue is fixed.
- Add a comment to the timeline to communicate updates to your team.
- Delete the incident if it was created in error.
Incident Timeline
The timeline shows a chronological log of everything that happened during the incident:
- Automated events (check failure detected, recovery detected)
- Status transitions (triggered → acknowledged → resolved)
- Team member comments
Custom Incidents
Custom incidents are manually created incidents not linked to any check. They are useful for tracking issues detected outside of MonitoringDog.
Creating a Custom Incident
- Go to Custom Incidents in the sidebar.
- Click Create Custom Incident.
- Fill in the title, severity, and escalation policy.
- Click Save.
Custom incidents follow the same lifecycle and timeline as automated incidents.
